Statement
Míchel González letter

Official farewell statement by Míchel González.

Hello everyone,

Since my arrival at the Club, I’ve received constant affection and learned a great deal for which I am very grateful for and, as it could not be otherwise, I have some wonderful memories.

Now that I am unable to do so via my usual exposure to the media, I would like to bid farewell and convey my feelings by means of this letter.

It’s incredibly sad, as myself and my family love this city and the people. We would have liked to have roots here, so my new Málaga-born grandson could see us every day, but it’s also sad because we felt so much joy from all the good things we’ve experienced.

I waited for my moment to come to Málaga CF, and beyond the sport, successes and results, it was all worth it. I’ve seen how the people of this Club go out of their way to do better, make you feel at home, make everything simpler and you just worry about being comfortable.

For a coach, who always has the hours counted and suitcase packed, to feel valued and as though you are eternal at this Club is an exclusive experience, all thanks to those who work and collaborate with Málaga CF, uniting vocation and feeling.

Take note, as that is something that isn’t seen everywhere, and is something that encourages the workers of every department within this Club.

Thank you to my sports directors, who brought me here and who had to dismiss me. Both trusted the person and valued the coach over the days and our multiple conversations. It was up to Mario Husillos to do it, and I’m grateful to him for making it happen without any trauma.

As sportspeople, which we still are, we accept that results aren’t about merits or dedications; only goals count, and we weren’t scoring.

I will be eternally grateful to my collaborators, those who came with me and those I met here; physiotherapists, medics, kit managers, physical trainers, technicians and communication staff. I will always be grateful to you for life for everything you’ve done.

Seeing your tears in private goodbyes and with your subsequent messages, confirms there will always be a place for you in my family album. You are like the rest of the Malaguista employees who maintain the Malaguista spirit, as Málaga is not yours as a business or way of life, but as an insuperable ‘Bokerón’ feeling.

I say to my players that I would have liked to have made them better, much better, so they could enjoy it to the fullest, but when one gives their all, you cannot ask for anything more. If those in charge had more patience over a long period of time, it was because of your commitment to me, your faith, and above all, your disposition every day.

Lastly, I bid farewell to Malaguistas and Malagueños – those who continue to follow me in the street and shout: “Míchel go now” – as everyone has something to say during this situation of instability marked by results.

I wish with absolute sincerity that victories start to arrive, to enable everyone to enjoy the calm that is needed. I hope my successor achieves it; I don’t only wish it, I believe it…

Thank you to everyone without exception.
