Málaga Club de Fútbol wishes to express its concern regarding the prospect of playing its home matches at the Ciudad de Málaga Athletics Stadium during the remodelling works at La Rosaleda. The currently estimated capacity, around 12,500 spectators, understandably raises concerns within the Club, as it does not appear sufficient to accommodate the Málaga fanbase, whose support has been exemplary during the most difficult times.
This scenario could pose a serious economic, sporting, and, above all, social setback for the Club. The unconditional support of our fans has been crucial in sustaining the Club through a challenging period, marked by an ongoing legal process and the absence of private investment. Málaga CF is currently financed solely through the assets it is able to generate on its own, and its fanbase is, without a doubt, the most valuable of them all.
The Club fully supports the project to provide Málaga with a modern stadium that matches the growth of the city and its team. However, this transformation must be undertaken with the utmost guarantees and without compromising the Club’s stability or the right of its season ticket holders to accompany the team during this new chapter.
We must not forget that Málaga Club de Fútbol is the province's leading team, the one that represents Málaga on the national football stage and channels the hopes and excitement of tens of thousands of Malagueños and Malagueñas every week.
We trust in the goodwill of the institutions, which have shown their support for the Club over the years, both symbolically and financially, through sponsorships and collaborations. Therefore, we make a call for a solution that will allow the majority of our fans to continue attending matches, thereby ensuring the sporting and financial viability of the Club during this transitional period.
Only a response that matches the social significance of Málaga CF will prevent a potentially irreversible impact on the city and province’s flagship club.
