The Club’s sports director, Mario Husillos, accompanied José during his presentation, and didn’t want to “miss the opportunity of thanking Míchel for his dedication and professionalism”, as well as “welcome José home and thank him for his predisposition. He comes here with great enthusiasm and maximum strength. Wishing you the best, which will be for the good of us all”.

Initial speech
“I had an experience as a Malaguista and could see how much the Club has grown. I congratulate myself for that, I was lucky enough to be signed by Antonio Benítez, and when I saw the number ‘9’ jersey I was thrilled. I’m going to try and bring a sense of calm, so that the atmosphere is more relaxed. If we light the flame of enthusiasm, the Malaguismo, the players and everyone else will be more excited. Since I arrived I’ve seen support and the desire to contribute and score points. We’ll try to change things, nuances in the team, undertake an awareness test to understand the problem, whilst growing and being motivated about the day to day, focused on the next final which is the upcoming match”.
Challenge
“Any professional likes to take on challenges in their career. I believe in the individual growth of the players based on the growth of the group. The most important thing is that the players are enthusiastic about the idea, and are again competitive, which is what we’re looking for”.
Changes
“My obligation is to see everything. I know the team perfectly well, I’ve studied it and I believe I can change many things. We must improve on many aspects, with other ideas, that can bear more fruit than we’ve seen up to now. I’m very respectful of Míchel’s work, and hope I have more luck than he did”.
Players
“They need to grow individually. They are the ones responsible and who must show another image. We’re in a very difficult position, but if any motive has pushed me it was the match against Espanyol, where the team showed soul. This needs to be the starting point, being aware of the situation and everything we have to do”.
Experience in Granada
“I arrived at matchday 25 when the team was on 20 points and nobody believed. The players showed a different side and grew based on group work. Encouragement comes with points, and focusing on the coming matches”.
Pride
“Coming to Málaga is an honour for any coach. I want to enjoy the possibility of training at Málaga and understand that I’m part of a great entity, a great Club and a great city. It’s an honour”.
Fans
“I can ask little from the fans, they go en masse to the stadium, I know them well. They’re suffering, going through a bad time, yet when we give them something, it’ll be momentous. I count on the fans’ support and I think they’ll be very important. I don’t need to ask them for anything, as I know they’ll bring it”.
