José González: “It’s time to be self-critical”

The Malaguista coach held a press conference the day before #MálagaGetafe: “I’m disappointed as I didn’t manage to regenerate the situation”.

Álex Robles and Juan Cruz, ‘juveniles’ in the line-up

“Two lads who could bring something to tomorrow’s game, and who are most welcome. We have many casualties, I haven’t counted them, sincerely. I have been focused on the available players to take part in a First Division match. We cannot forget that we have an obligation to our fans and ourselves, we’re professionals”.

Difficult situation

“It’s tough because it’s a situation of our own making. It’s about facing up to the circumstances, living with it and reaching conclusions for the future on a personal and professional level. These are situations that we haven’t experienced before, so we must learn from everything. It’s important to view it as a lesson to serve as an experience, which in the end is what we’ll do”.

Self-critical

“I’m disappointed with myself. I came here to recover a team in a critical condition. We hadn’t enjoyed a win for some time, we were seven points away, and I was hopeful that I could regenerate the situation. I’m disappointed as I didn’t manage to get the team in the fight for safety. I have been wrong on many issues and that’s what I have to think about for the future, make my own self-criticism which is the most important thing. Everyone has to be self-critical in order to keep growing”.

The rival - Getafe CF

“It didn't happen overnight, I think it takes many years. They were relegated and didn’t assume anything as the following year they continued in the same fight. You can make a mistake one year but maintain your identity and common sense. I admire what they’re doing, the points they have. The coaches they sign are similar, with the same characteristics. Many good things have been achieved there over a long time”.

Great fans

“What I’ll take away from Málaga is the wonderful fan base, which reminds me a lot of my home town. These fans have passion, they live football with intensity so it’s logical that they do what they do during the good times and bad. It’s a feeling. What can you ask for at this time? A feeling. I hope and wish that they will be enjoying promotion very soon”.
