Atlético Malagueño

With the aim of developing players and upholding the spirit of La Academia MCF, Atlético Malagueño is a team made up of young academy talents aspiring to reach the first team. Its main task is to offer playing mechanisms that foster both collective and individual growth for each footballer in the squad.

Historically, the best competitive period for the reserve team of the blanquiazules was between 2003 and 2006, spending three consecutive seasons in the Second Division after a memorable promotion in the 2002/03 season under the leadership of Antonio Tapia. The team featured countless academy players who went on to have careers in top-flight football, such as Calatayud, Manolo Gaspar, Juanma, Nacho, Juanito, Alexis, Juan Rodríguez, Jesús Gámez, Manolo Reina, and many more.

On July 9, 2009, under the presidency of Fernando Sanz and following approval from the RFEF, Málaga B officially changed its name to Club Atlético Malagueño. The 'B' team competed in Group IX of the Tercera División for eleven years (2007–2018), winning the league title consecutively in the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons with a recognizable and respected style of football.

Under the leadership of Julio César Dely Valdés—Málaga CF's all-time top scorer in the top flight—the reserve side achieved a long-awaited promotion on May 27, 2018, returning to Group IV of the Segunda División B for the 2018/19 season.

The high demands of a league filled with experienced teams, and especially a poor start with eight consecutive defeats, placed Malagueño in the relegation zone early on—a position they could not escape from despite improved results under Cádiz-born coach Manolo Sanlúcar. On April 27, 2019, during matchday 35, the team mathematically confirmed its relegation to Tercera División.

The 2019/20 season was transitional, with Sergio Pellicer at the helm until his mid-season promotion to manage MCF. The COVID-19 pandemic led to the suspension of the competition, with Malagueño in 9th place after 29 matchdays. In the 2020/21 season, a new project under the Funes-Bravo coaching duo fought until the final match for promotion to the newly formed Segunda RFEF, but the team fell short, losing the playoff final to Antequera CF. The 2021/22 season followed a similar pattern, with Funes' side reaching the promotion playoff but losing in the first round to Huétor Tájar from Granada. In 2022/23, they were eliminated in the second round of the promotion phase by El Palo FC, and in 2023/24, they competed with the youngest squad in the league.

In the 2024/25 season, Malagueño clinched the league title and a historic direct promotion to Segunda Federación with one matchday to spare. It happened on Sunday, May 4, 2025, at La Rosaleda Stadium after a 2–0 victory over Atlético Mancha Real.
