Pellicer: “It's a great test, we're going to see a very nice game”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference ahead of Sunday's match against Córdoba CF at the Nuevo Arcángel. “It’s a very serious playoff test:"

A very difficult rival and stadium

“They are the best team to come to La Rosaleda, in a game in which we didn’t play well. They left us a life, we competed to the maximum and we were always in the game. We faced the best team in the second round, fighting with Castellón. It’s a marked match because the other day we wanted to beat Murcia and secure the playoff. This match serves to seal it, and with the objective of fighting for the max, to be as high as possible. It’s a very serious playoff test, no matter what happens though it’s not going to make a difference as to whether we’ll be promoted. But it is a great test, we’ll see a very nice match because of the stage and the rival. It's going to be a difficult game, they also know that we are a very complicated team. The small details will determine the result.”

Ferreiro's expulsion appeal dismissed

“We're not having any luck lately. What happened to David is an injustice, the images are very clear and it’s not a protest, everyone can see it. We all make mistakes, we have to be better than the rival and be above the referee's decisions, sometimes they make mistakes. It is an injustice about David, he is going to miss an important game because of what he did. The images are there.”

Malaguista starting-11 in Córdoba

“The other day we repeated the line-up for the first time this season. We are going to adjust tomorrow thinking about what we can improve both in defence and attack. We can also change positions of certain players. We have an idea within the game plans. They are all prepared. We are going to wait until tomorrow, but possibly there could be a change.”

Details of a very difficult match

“All teams have weak points. We’re going to find a different match context than the last matches at La Rosaleda. In this game we are going to have more spaces, they are playing at home. We are two very proactive teams, making mistakes and putting pressure in the rival half. It’ll be a very physical match with individual duels in each zone. We have to put a mine in the space on the sides and another within the centre backs to hurt them. These last five games will be decided by the small details. On a defensive level we are very good, but we have to give that bit extra in the finishing zone.”

A tough test for the playoff

“It’s the closest test and one of the hardest. In the last 10 games we have won five and drawn five. Even if we had won all 10, we wouldn't be first. Castellón are achieving stratospheric numbers. We are fighting with Córdoba and Ibiza. We have to arrive well because of what the environment generates for us, with positive energy. It’s an important match, but if we win, it doesn’t mean that we’ll be promoted, and if we lose that we’ll stay down. Córdoba are one of the strongest teams of the two groups.”

Improvements for the end of the championship

“We need to change the decision making in the small details. I tell the players to have confidence in their work and the effort they make. Our strength goes through La Rosaleda and we have drawn the last three. We have to be more precise in the small details. We are one of the most competitive teams in the category, we have to be more effective in attack.”

Taking care of the details in the final stretch

“There are five games left and anything can happen. Our best scenario is to compete in all five games, now the focus is on Córdoba. It’s essential to arrive with positive, strong feelings on a mental and physical level. First, we have to certify it, five weeks ago there were teams that did not appear above or below, and we have to have the humility of the next game, seal it and then the small details make the difference. Daily routine is the key to reaching the goal. If we improve every day, at the moment of truth we will be more prepared. Invisible work and training are key. The priority is the Córdoba match, because we would fight to be as high as possible and seal it.”
