MCFF| Dream return to the First Division

The Málaga women’s first team returns to the elite of national football following a fantastic season, reflected with the mathematical promotion against Femarguín thanks to a superb goal from María Ruiz.

Antonio Contreras’ girls, whose 2017/18 campaign in both the regular league and the promotion playoffs touched perfection, return to the place in history previously won by the formerly named Club Atlético Málaga.

Since the 2011/12 season, Málaga hasn’t competed in the Superliga Femenina, now the Liga Iberdrola. The last promotion to the elite took place on 8th June 2008, following the 2nd match of the First Division playoffs. In a triangular format and just one round, Atlético Málaga moved up a category together with SD Lagunak, leaving CD Arguineguín out.

Previously, in 2002/03, Club Atlético Málaga moved up to the Liga Nacional (Second Division) after becoming champions of the Liga Provincial.

Since the recent 20th anniversary (10th May 1998) of the league title in the magical year of the ‘treble’, the brand new Málaga CF Femenino returns to the best of the elite, honouring its own history and keen to repeat the successes of its predecessor. Here’s to the First Division girls!
