Málaga CF wants to express its perplexity at the decision made by the Consejo Superior de Deportes regarding the cases of Pau Víctor and Dani Olmo, FC Barcelona players.
During the 2019/2020 season, Málaga CF accepted the impossibility of registering several players due to exceeding the salary cap. The rules are clear, the Club made a mistake and complied with them.
The corrective measures didn’t stop there. Málaga CF was also forced to compete with a maximum of 18 professional registrations for two seasons and compelled to undergo a sports-related workforce reduction (ERE), which has become a landmark case in our country's history. This caused significant economic and sporting harm to the Club. It is worth recalling that the organisation was in a dire financial situation, requiring a deep restructuring and facing a serious risk of disappearance.
Only a titanic effort by its organisation and the unwavering support, once again, of Málaga fans kept Málaga CF afloat during one of the most challenging chapters in its recent history.
For all these reasons, the registration of two players under similar circumstances is incomprehensible. This precedent seriously endangers the integrity of the competition. The strict application of the rules must be equitable for all participants.
LaLiga and the RFEF have maintained a unified stance, just as they did in 2019. However, this position by the CSD undermines the governing bodies by disregarding their arguments. This situation calls into question the Economic Control system, protected by the Sports Law and held in high regard internationally, which serves as a safeguard for the sustainability of our football.
