A trajectory marked by fulfilled objectives

Juan Ramón Muñiz returns to a home in which, in all his previous stages, achieved all objectives set by the Club thanks to his style combining hard work, perseverance and leadership.

The history of Muñiz at Málaga CF began some 15 years ago in the 2003/04 season. The Asturian-born coach arrived as assistant coach to the Blue and Whites’ first team which, at the hand of Juande Ramos, achieved an excellent 10th place in the First Division League.

Later, in the 2006/07 season, he returned to the entity as coach from Marbella in substitution of Marcos Alonso, after 10 matches played in the Second Division. Despite the Club’s difficult situation, being immersed in a bankruptcy process, Muñiz kept the team afloat, securing permanency in the Second Division.

The following year, in 2007/08, the coach from Gijón made a bold plan heading up the sports management of a team that earned its return to the elite. Muñiz, coach and leader of a group that became a family, had MCF in promotion positions after 42 matches in a league tournament that got off to a strong start with seven wins on the bounce. A considerable feat taking into account the Club’s financial limitations and the tough competition from historic rivals in a tremendously competitive category.

Following a year in Santander, in which he achieved meritorious permanency in the League with Racing, Muñiz returned to Málaga CF to coach the team in the memorable 2009/10 season. It was a very difficult season, but the reward at the end was to continue in the First Division following an agonising draw in the last match of the season against Real Madrid at La Rosaleda. The goal from Duda certified an irrefutable act: Muñiz always fulfils his objectives.

Eight years later,’Juanra’ returns home for his fourth stage with MCF. Only Antonio Benítez (257) and Joaquín Peiró (193) accumulated more total matches as Malaguista coach than Muñiz (112), whose stats in the Liga 1|2|3 included two promotions, 73 victories in 158 matches and an outstanding 73 per cent of positive results (wins and draws). From now on, your good luck will again be ours Juan Ramón. Let’s go for it!
