Weligton: “The Levante game is a match of six points”
Minutes before the Malaguista first team’s morning training session, Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Brazilian defender, Weligton, spoke to the media in the Ciudad de Málaga stadium press room.
Statements:
(Victory in Getafe): “We’re very happy for having got the three points that we were so looking for away from home. After so-so first half, in the second we managed to correct the mistakes and get three beautiful goals. We secured the victory, and we’re all very happy, but we know that the League is very close and if we lose a match we’ll exit European positions.”
(A great second half): “In Bilbao we had a spectacular first half and we lost the match. In this one, the reverse happened, we had a bad first half in which we weren’t comfortable and we had to change a few things. Sometimes those players who come on from the bench are as important as the starting eleven. Eliseu and Joaquín came on very well and changed the rhythm of the match, and we were lucky enough to score three great goals.”
(Personal situation): “I’m feeling a lot better, it’s not so much of a struggle physically now and I’m confident about playing. I’m a little uncomfortable about playing on the right but I try and do the best I can and help out the team.”
(Levante): “Often we measure teams by names and money but in football today motivation and desire play a fundamental role. Levante have shown in the last two seasons that they’re a well-assimilated team, they know how to play, and they’re not in their current position by coincidence.”
(Forgetting the first leg): “We have to forget it and try and maintain our European positions and look to move up into Champions places – something that we have in our grasp as Levante are a direct rival. We’re taking on a game of six points at home, where we have to be much more motivated than them.”
(Chance to get into Champions): “There’s no greater motivation than this - playing at home against a close rival of ours. We have to forget everything else and get the three points to stay in European positions.”
