“We were fresher, with ideas and intensity”

The Málaga CF coach held a press conference following the match against RC Celta: “I’m very pleased with my players today”.

#CeltaMálaga analysis

“I’m extremely proud of my players and how they approached the game. We knew we were up against a team that accumulates a lot of possession. Against certain teams they’ve had more than 70 per cent, but today it was very even. We competed well, maintained good intensity for 70 minutes, but we’re still lacking the icing on the cake to enable us to claim victory. If we miss that last pass we face that same difficulty, and today it was the same story as when we competed against the big teams. To fail on that last clear opportunity, we have the same feeling. Indeed, we did many things very well today, but unfortunately, we could have left with a defeat. Am I proud? I’ve always said the same about this group. I’m super proud. Blow after blow they don’t get the reward they deserve. Today I think we were missing that last pass to take the lead. We could have scored in that last chance, but it would have been accidental. The rival had much clearer opportunities to score. Overall, we were fresher, with more ideas and more intensity. We approached the rival area more. I’m not leaving happy because we need victories. This is what boost spirits and what we can give to the fans at this time”.

Possession

“I’m very demanding. Although I speak very well of every single player, I demand the utmost from them and they know it. That said, I’m extremely happy with my players. I don’t think Celta shone today. Against RCD Espanyol they had 73 per cent possession, yet today we were equals, and they play very good football. They have decisive players, and if they didn’t shine today it’s because of what we did. We did it well, I’m proud of my team”.

Satisfied

“The fact that we’re missing passes has been happening for quite some time. It could have been the same story as when we played against Sevilla, Atlético de Madrid and Valencia. Goal opportunities that we’re not converting, yet the rival is talented and manages to score. Today could have been a repeat of that. We leave with a small satisfaction, but it’s not enough for me. I believe we deserved far more of a reward for the work we did. We played many strong, intense minutes during this game, with the strikers running a lot both in attack and defence. Generally speaking, I’m very happy with everyone”.

Professionalism

“Fundamentally, it will depend on others. From our point of view, it’s up to us to prepare for the match against Villarreal with the utmost professionalism. We must focus on scoring the three points in front of our fans at our home ground. Destiny will put us where we deserve to be, although I believe we’re deserving of much more”.
