Ruano: “The only thing that matters is Sunday”

Malaguista reserve team coach, Manel Ruano speaks in La Rosaleda’s mixed zone: “The boys have demonstrated a lot, and must continue to do so,” affirms the Catalan manager.

Statements Manel Ruano

Handle the pressure

“We aren’t under any pressure, I don’t know about the rival.  We have the pressure of winning every weekend, and must try and pass the test there, on a large pitch, in front of a great fan base and with a great atmosphere.  It’s a test I hope we pass with flying colours.”

A two-match test

“These matches are wonderful to play, I think for our team it’s like a test, and we’re hopeful of passing.  The aim is to win the tie from here to a fortnight’s time.  Any positive result will go in our favour, but certain ties can be lost after an away defeat and also lost after an away win.  You never know.  At the end of the day that’s football, and from here to 10 or 15 days, what matters is being in the draw.”

Castellón, great rival

“I’ve never played there, but it’s a great pitch, great fan base and a city that really gets behind the team.  I’m sure there’ll be an amazing atmosphere, and we hope everyone enjoys the game.  If we win, it’ll be even better.”

Short-term mentality

“With a very young team, with an average age of 19, we’ve got this far.  We just missed out on the top spot, but that’s idle talk, maybe on Monday we’ll be talking about something else.  In football, the results and records we’ve achieved so far don’t mean anything, the only thing that matters is Sunday, and we hope that everything will be positive on Monday.  The boys have demonstrated a lot, and must continue to do so.”
