Pepe Mel: “Málaga need to win”

The Malaguista coach held a press conference following #RacingMálaga. “This is the first time this team has gone two straight matches without defeat. And the first time we’ve kept a clean sheet. I’m going to try and build on that,” he stressed.

Pepe Mel took part in a press conference after the game at Campos de Sport de El Sardinero. “I have to focus on the positives. The negatives I’ve already talked about in the dressing room. Above all, we were punished for two things. We weren’t able to make two passes in midfield and we lost the ball in certain situations. That’s very dangerous. There are times in the game where you have to be direct and profound. Their defence was in an advanced position many times,” he explained.

Despite only being at the helm of the team for a short time, the Malaguista manager highlighted the positives from the match: “I’m currently trying to get the positive aspects out of the team, which I’m working on. This is the first time this team has gone two straight matches without defeat. And the first time we’ve kept a clean sheet. I’m going to try and build on that.”

Pepe commented that “nobody playing a match leaves happy with a point,” although he clarified that “seeing how the game has developed” and “with the two mistakes that went in Racing’s favour,” he has a different idea.

Málaga are back at La Rosaleda next week, but the coach said that the team “is in a situation where we need to win, wherever it is, whether it’s here or La Rosaleda. We must have a good week of training and keep insisting. I've only been here for a short time, and I have to insist on things that the team needs,” he continued.
