Pellicer: “We have to be self-critical, but hold our heads up”

The Málaga CF coach held a remote press conference following #SportingMálaga. “Now it’s about recovery as we knew this would be an obstacle course”, he affirmed.

Analysis of the 2-1

“There were two very different halves. The plan was to pile the pressure on upfront and attack the spaces. However, the first goal was a tough blow for us and negatively impacted our idea of play. In the first half we were 2-0 down, yet in the second half they didn’t go near us. This is going to be a long road. When you concede a goal, you need to recover. It’s been a struggle and the rival felt comfortable on the pitch”.

Prudence and patience

“In the first half the rival was superior to us. They had four shots at goal and the feeling was they were better than us. We’re seeing many situations like this in the league, as happened today, and if the rival goes ahead it costs a lot to go level. In the second half we readjusted, but we lacked crosses for the forwards in order to go for second plays. The difference, that first half. A great deal of prudence and a lot of patience is needed. We’re going to depend on ourselves and now must think about Friday’s match as we did against Dépor”.

Realistic

“We have to be self-critical, but hold our heads up. We’re playing finals all the time and on Friday we have another one. We are reliant on ourselves and need to find a good emotional balance. We’re recovering players, but I want to be realistic. We’re going to suffer, but many would like to change for us. Now it’s about recovery as we knew this would be an obstacle course”.

Another final on Friday

“The first half wasn’t good. The action of that goal marked everything, things became misaligned and in that aspect it was clear. Looking back isn’t good, especially when you lose. We’ve got another final coming up and the players know how to reactivate themselves following defeat. We need unity as on Friday we have a true final in which we’re going to go all out for a win. We need to recover and look forward”.
