Pellicer: We wanted to win, but I'm proud of the team

The Málaga CF coach held a post-match press conference following the matchday 9 clash between the Blue and Whites and Real Madrid Castilla. “We have to focus on ourselves and value the process,” he stated.

Match analysis

“The idea of the match was very clear. Trying to dominate, trying to play from side to side, provide depth on the wings with Jokin and Dani Sánchez... We wanted to put people on the inside, although to create spaces you have to move and it isn’t easy. In the second half the game opened up a little more. There’s a great deal of talk about us being defensive and look how we finished. With three forwards, two midfielders acting as playmaker... In the end I’m very happy in that sense as the rival played well, and we did a great job in defence.”

A very difficult opponent

“This team was five minutes away from promotion last year, they have enormous talent. They haven’t started well in terms of scoring, but they’ll get better when they have that balance in defence as they generate a lot of chances. Until today, they had scored in every match.”

No excuses

“The referees have a difficult job to do. We have to forget this issue as it doesn’t help us. There are cards and situations that perhaps you don't understand, but they are people who make mistakes like us.”

Keep working

"I’m not happy with the point as we wanted to win. It was an even match. There were many situations under our control, but when they recovered the ball, especially in the second half, they had their moments. Beyond the point we got tonight, I'm very proud of the lads' work. We have to focus on ourselves. I’m happier than in the game against Melilla and we won. In the last play we could have won or lost. You have to value the process.”
