Pellicer: “It’s destined that we achieve it at La Rosaleda”

The Málaga coach spoke after the 1-0 defeat against Eldense. “We weren’t sharp today, but now it’s time to lift up our players, who made an incredible effort,” he stated.

We lacked that step forward

“The first half was evenly matched in many situations. It's true that in the second half, right from the start, when they played out wide, our central midfielders weren’t getting over to support the fullbacks. We lacked that step forward, which we managed to take the other day. The same thing happened to us in Zaragoza, playing with a man down, but then we were more solid and better on the ball.”

The team gave everything

“We fought until the end, but the match was heavily influenced by that one action. We were missing a little something, especially in possession. We needed to be a bit braver. Before the sending-off, there had been very little happening. The game would’ve been different, but that’s no excuse.”

Lack of depth and deserving rival

“We weren’t able to find those players who can threaten the depth. That’s where they wore us down, especially in the second phase of play. They’re a very physical team. In the few minutes we had before the red card, we could see that we might have been able to control the game. It’s just one of those moments. There’s no need to make excuses because we’ve shown we can compete at a very high level with one player less. We competed, but the opponent deserved it. They created many more chances, had more opportunities, and we were lacking.”

Going for the objective at home

“It’s destined that we will achieve it at La Rosaleda. Today was very important because we wanted to seal everything and be ambitious, looking forward. This defeat doesn’t change our roadmap. Now it’s time to lift up the players, who made an incredible effort. We weren’t sharp, but having one player less is no excuse.”

We depend on ourselves

“We should have done it today. I said it before the match, miracles don’t exist. It depends on us, and depending on ourselves is the greatest merit. It was a game that didn’t go our way from the first action. I want to tell our fans that the boys gave everything. Congratulations to Eldense, and now we focus on La Rosaleda.”
