Pellicer: “The pain should drive our comeback”

Málaga CF’s coach spoke in the press room at El Sardinero after the 3-0 defeat. “We played a good first half, but we need to do more,” he stated.

Match analysis

“It’s tough, because I think we played a good first half. Racing have offensive potential, but under equal conditions we were the better side. Except for the final stretch, the entire first half was played at the tempo we wanted. Everything changed with the sending-off: the structure and the players’ roles shifted. Even so, I think we started the second half well with one man down, we stayed alive after the first goal, and we even created chances and dangerous moments. Then came the second goal, which I consider totally avoidable.”

“We’ve done a lot, but we need to do more. As a supporter, I feel sadness and a lot of pain, because things are happening to us that we must turn around. We have to get back up. With equal numbers on the pitch, we could have been close to victory.”

Team morale

“The dressing room is feeling low, which is only natural at this moment. I see them standing firm and, within these adversities, within these defeats decided by small details, there is pain and suffering, but from there, it’s about training and being prepared.”

“This league is beautiful: every team has its chances, everything is very unpredictable. We have to change. This is the worst moment since I’ve been here in terms of results. The pain should drive our comeback.”

Lack of precision

“Racing came into this after two unfair defeats at home. They’re a team that creates many chances, but today they were more cautious. While it was 11 against 11, it was a very balanced game. The first half was very much under control; if we had been more precise, the scoreline could have been different.”
