“We’re united; we can’t wait for Sunday so we can show the effort and progress we’ve been making”

The Malaguista midfielder spoke at the launch of Blue and White Values and shared his thoughts on Sunday’s match against RC Deportivo.

Dressing room

“The dressing room is doing well, considering we’ve had four straight defeats. The team is confident going into this weekend’s match, especially because it’s at home, where we take a step forward in front of our fans. We’re really eager for it; the results haven’t reflected how we actually feel on the pitch. We can’t wait for Sunday to come so we can turn things around.”

On the four consecutive defeats

“The small details are costing us. I think we were playing a good first half the other day, and in the end it was the sending-off, an isolated play, that affected the second half. In the other matches, it’s been more of the same. I think we’ve been the better side, but those little details that used to go our way are now going against us. We’re in the Second Division, it’s tough, but the team is training well, and day by day, and in matches, we’re feeling good.”

“At the end of the day, on the pitch we try to stay as focused as possible. We have to make sure there are no lapses in concentration, and when the opponent has them, we need to take advantage, because that’s another area where we’ve been falling short.”

Many absences

“Having players out definitely has an impact, as it makes the squad smaller. In both training sessions and matches, when there are fewer absences, competitiveness increases and the coach has more options. Still, even with the injuries, the team is capable of getting results.”

Personal moment

“I try to focus on what I can control, on working hard every day and constantly improving. I want to help the team and try to maintain or raise my level. Each of us individually has to give our best version.”

Confidence in the team

“We try to block out everything external, our focus is on the work we do every day. We’re united, fully behind the coach, and we trust him and his work. We can’t wait for Sunday to come so we can show the effort and progress we’ve been making.”

This week’s work

“Our preparation hasn’t changed much, we analyse the rival, their strengths and weaknesses, to find ways to do the most damage possible. We approach it like any other week. In this league, both the leader and the last-place team can beat you. You can win against the top side and lose against the bottom one, that’s why every matchday is the most important one.”

Fixing the small details

“The key is to stay calm and not lose our heads. We need to be aware of the little details, stay focused individually during the match, and have the ambition to make the most of our chances, especially in the box.”

Confidence despite the tough moment

“In past years we’ve gone through difficult situations, but this time it feels different. We’re all in it together, we believe in our work, and we’re fully convinced by what the coach is doing.”

The fans, always present

“We count on their support, when they get behind us, we give so much more because La Rosaleda is a fortress. The stadium gives us extra energy. Above all, we want them to stay calm, the team is confident and eager to go out and win on Sunday.”

About #MálagaDépor

“I expect a match similar to the last one, with attacking firepower upfront. But if we play with personality and stay sharp on the ball, we can cause real damage.”
