Málaga CF Femenino won their ninth consecutive match, out of nine so far, in Group 4 Primera Nacional. Carmen Gómez, from the penalty spot, scored the winning goal against La Rambla.
Victory for Ayala’s girls in Roma Luz against a tough, experienced rival, ADFB La Rambla from Córdoba. The coach made several rotations following the titanic effort made last Thursday in the Copa de la Reina, at La Rosaleda, against Reto Iberdrola rival, Zaragoza CFF.
The Blue and White line-up consisted of: Andrea Ríos; Encarni, Yoli, Olmedo, Elena; Lorena, María Cortés, Teté, Farfán; Carmen Gómez and Claudia Muñoz. In the second half, Marina, Clo, Bertuchi, Torralvo and Silvia Mérida also played, the latter coming on in 81’ in place of Clo (injured).
The girls were expecting a difficult match, and it was. Despite being in a mid-table position, La Rambla’s squad is full of veteran players who know the division well and prevented the usual Malaguista gameplay. However, at the end of the first half, after several opportunities, the Blue and Whites took the lead. Carmen Gómez scored from the penalty spot (1-0, 39’), her seventh goal of the current league competition, the second highest scorer after Torralvo (10 goals).
The fate of the match didn’t alter in the second half. Ayala introduced some fresh legs as the second half advanced, to boost the team who were playing their second game in four days.
La Rambla kept insisting until the end, and there were a few heart-stopping moments as the rival sought an equaliser. However, MCFF knew how to suffer and hold on to their lead to secure their ninth league win on the run to remain in pole position.
Next week, away from home, Málaga CF have an Andalusian derby against one of the leading teams in the division, UD Almería.
