Coach Héctor Díaz made several changes to his starting-11 compared with the league opener against Guiniguada Apolinario. The Malaguista line-up consisted of: Celia; Encarni, Belén, Yoli Peche ©, Elsa; Carmela, Marina Tomás, Noemi, Alba Navarro; Torralvo and Lucía Correro.
It was a very hot afternoon at the Antonio Toledo Sánchez Stadium at the Ciudad Deportiva Francisco Mendoza in Huelva. The game was evenly contested from the outset, with both sides enjoying spells of control and creating chances. The score remained goalless at half-time (0-0).
The second half followed a similar pattern, with neither side able to break the deadlock. Héctor introduced Lucía Ramos, as well as reserve team players Yessenia, Lucía Alarcón and Sara during the closing stages, when the game and the tie were ultimately decided.
The hosts took the lead in the 79th minute when Gasienica converted a penalty from the spot to put the Huelva side 1-0 ahead. Lucía Ramos came close to forcing a penalty shootout in stoppage time, but her effort just brushed the base of the post.
Victory and a place in the second round of the Copa de la Reina for the Huelva side, while Málaga CF are eliminated and will now focus exclusively on their league campaign. Their next fixture is away from home this Saturday at 17:00 against Cacereño Femenino Atlético.
