Míchel: “Changing the dynamic is our obligation and our wish”

The Blue and Whites’ coach held a press conference at the Mendizorroza press room after #AlavésMálaga. “We’ve got no choice but to get up and carry on”, he affirms.

Match analysis

“In the first half we had situations which we could have defined another way. Again, we were missing something that we’ve been lacking all year, which is insufficient forcefulness to finish plays; and the second half was an endless story. We started to lose position, ball possession, we became hesitant…this spurred Alavés on to score the first goal. From then on, the situation was the same as we’ve had throughout the season, that has also worsened with results, anxiety, nerves and hesitancy. All these things are coming together, and amongst them the team’s situation is critical, complex”.

Team dynamic

“We’ve had several setbacks throughout the year. Up until the match against Betis, the team had suffered a lot but had taken small, but firm, steps forward. However, in these last two matches we’ve taken a pretty big step back. I didn’t expect it, although it’s not a strange situation for us. That said, we’ve got no choice but to get up and carry on if we want to maintain hope and have the opportunity to change the dynamic. It’s not easy but it’s our obligation and also our wish”.

Hope for improvement

“I am hopeful, there have been times in recent weeks – except for the last four days – that bit by bit, although we’ve been suffering a lot, we’ve seen arguments for the situation to change. We’ve been like this since summer, but from Monday up until now, we’ve come to a screeching halt. You have to keep going, and try to ensure the players return to how they were a few weeks ago to push them on”.
