Malagueño keep the promotion dream alive (3-0)

Atlético Malagueño defeated Peña Deportiva at home in the return leg of the second round of promotion play-offs to Second B. Maty and Harper (2) scored the Malaguista goals to earn a pass to the definitive round, with a 3-0 aggregate win.

Again, the reserve team, with Añón at the helm due to Ruano’s suspension, took an early lead. Contrary to the manual driven by Maty to Mula, the latter set up a precise assist allowing Maty to propel the ball to the back of the net with an unstoppable header (1-0, 4’). The Malaguistas could have increased their lead during an electric start, with a shot from Kuki that hit the post, and a powerful ball by Wójcik soon after the initial goal.

The rival tried to not lose sight of the fact that one goal would put them as frontrunners in this tie, but their attacking resources barely disturbed Aarón’s goal in the first half.

In the second half, Malagueño continued to dominate the pace of play, against a tough opponent who never gave up, although they lacked ‘punch’ upfront. In minute 66, the referee declared a perfectly legal goal by Wójcik, which arose from superb play woven by Luis Muñoz and Javi Jiménez. In the final stage of play, there was one protagonist: Jack Harper.

The Scottish striker scored from the penalty spot (2-0, 78’) soon after he left the bench. It didn’t stop there. He put the icing on the cake in stoppage time with another definitive goal (3-0, 92’).

The Blue and Whites, after last weekend’s goalless draw in Ibiza, showed their power at home against a committed, excited crowd at the prospect of promotion to Second B.
