Málaga CF Femenino suffered a 2-0 defeat by Sporting Club de Huelva with goals from Patri Ojeda in 36’ and Yulia in 81’ for the locals on Liga Iberdrola matchday 13. Celia Ruano, in the starting line-up for the first time this season, and Marta Cazalla, having recovered from injury, were the main new additions to the Femenino squad.
The match got off to an even start, with both teams playing one on one and sharing possession. Málaga attempted to surpass the Huelva defence with a shot from Dominika in 11’ that didn’t end in success. The tables turned, and the locals stepped up the attack. Sporting focused, via corners, on the Málaga area, which was well defended by Chelsea. When the Blue and Whites enjoyed two consecutive shots at goal, one from Adriana from midfield and another from Celia that escaped over the crossbar, Sporting made the most of another corner in 36’ and Patri Ojeda opened the scoring with a header. The scoreboard didn’t alter for the remaining 10 minutes of the first half, and after 45 minutes the score stayed at 1-0.
The second half kicked off with a more active Málaga, however, they didn’t manage to score. The closest chance came from Pamela in 62’ but crashed into the Sporting post. Contreras’ girls increased their attack, with Adriana again attempting to go level in 70’ with a free kick away from the edge of the area. Aerial play didn’t benefit the Blue and Whites’ game, and in minute 81, Yulia took the home side to a 2-0 lead.
