Málaga CF and RC Recreativo de Huelva met on Primera Federación matchday 24 on a sunny morning this Sunday 18th February. La Rosaleda Stadium witnessed an incredible crowd, with 25,180 fans enjoying this vibrant match.
Sergio Pellicer’s starting-11 consisted of:A. Herrero; Carlos Puga, Einar, Nelson, Víctor García; Manu Molina, Genaro; D. Ferreiro, Dani Lorenzo, J. Avilés and Roberto.
MCF were raring to go from the start, with the clear intention of dominating the match. Genaro featured in the first chance at the start of play. The midfielder gained possession on the edge of the area, but his attempt went wide close to the crossbar (1').
The Blue and Whites piled the pressure on and took the initiative. The great attacking display by the Malaguistas soon paid off. In the 16th minute of play, Roberto finished off an excellent cross by Carlos Puga directed from the right wing. The striker connected twice with the ball to send it to the back of the net (1-0, 16').
The goal didn’t satisfy the locals’ hunger and they soon increased their lead. After 20 minutes Manu Molina launched a corner directly to the head of Javier Avilés. The number '9' sent the ball to the far post where Einar finished at will to make it 2-0.
A magnificent triangulation by Carlos Puga, David Ferreiro and Avilés nearly ended in a goal a few minutes later. However, the forward was unable to connect clearly with the cross served with some difficulty by Ferreiro and the goalkeeper made the save without a problem. The scoreboard remained at 2-0 at half-time.
At the beginning of the second half, Roberto once again had the opportunity to make it 3-0. Genaro gained possession and sent the ball to the number '9', surprising the opposing defence, but didn’t manage to surpass Rubén Gálvez in the one-on-one.
The Blue and Whites maintained their intensity, not allowing Recreativo de Huelva to wander too far into their area. With control of possession and several approaches to the rival goal, the team held on to their lead until the end and managed to take the three points.
Next Saturday, Pellicer's team are away to CD Alcoyano, starting at 18:00, on Primera Federación matchday 25.
