Málaga CF travelled to Mendizorroza on Friday to face Deportivo Alavés on matchday 10 of LALIGA EA SPORTS. A sizeable contingent of Málaga fans filled the away section, showing once again that nothing gets in the way of Malaguismo, not the day, the time, the distance or the temperature.
In the opening stages, the clearest chance fell to Alavés’ Tenaglia, whose shot was saved by Alfonso Herrero, resulting in the match’s first corner. From that point on, Málaga looked to take control of possession and put more pressure on the hosts. Pablo Ibáñez then tried his luck for Alavés with a shot from the edge of the box that went wide.
In the 40th minute, Niño won possession and laid the ball off to Dotor, whose shot went just wide of Sivera’s goal. With less than a minute remaining before half-time, Niño then fired Málaga into the lead, finishing off a perfectly weighted through ball from Ramón. 0-1 at the break.
After the restart, Alavés pushed forward in search of an equaliser, but Málaga repeatedly thwarted their attacks. With clear-cut chances at a premium for both sides, Funes made his first substitutions in an attempt to see out the win.
The Malaguistas stepped up their attacking efforts, creating two chances in quick succession through Dotor and Niño. Alavés responded with a close-range effort that Alfonso Herrero did well to save low down.
Chupe, one of Málaga’s second-half substitutes, then tried his luck with a low shot that Sivera gathered comfortably. In the 86th minute, Funes made his final change, bringing on Cajuste.
Late in the game, Mañas found the net in minute 89 to bring Alavés level. The match ended 1-1 at Mendizorroza, earning Málaga CF another point and taking their tally to five from their first 10 league matches of the season.
