Atlético Malagueño, the reinforced leader

The Blue and Whites’ reserve team heads up Third Division Group IX with 61 points. During the winter transfer window, five new players were incorporated into the team.

Atlético Malagueño leads the table with a 10-point advantage over their principal follower, UD Almería B. The MCF Academy team, who are still a match in hand as last week’s clash with CD El Palo was postponed, could end the regular season as champions, allowing them to achieve Second Division B promotion, surpassing just one two-leg tie.

However, the reserve team’s main objective is to nurture players to move up to the first team. Ontiveros, Luis and En-Nesyri have all fulfilled this aim, playing minutes in LaLiga and regularly being included in the line-ups. This, together with certain long-term injuries, such as goalkeeper, Samu Casado, or strikers, Nané and Luismi, have weakened Manel Ruano’s team. The sports management of the youth ranks, headed up by Miguel Calzado, moved quickly and strengthened the reserve team with five new players.

Goalkeeper, Guille Lara; defender, Ian Soler; and strikers, Jack Harper, Sergio Galeano and Adrián Wójcik are now part of the Blue and Whites.  All promising young players, who have come to complement their development as footballers, although they are already playing at a high level.
