Almería, kilometre 42

The season has finished. Málaga CF brought an end to 19/20 yesterday with a draw away from home against UD Almería. The epilogue of a year riddled with incidents, on and off the pitch.

There were several highlights from the 0-0 draw in the #AlmeríaMálaga clash. Check them out in our final kilometre of this campaign:

Gonzalo in goal

Whilst Munir rested peacefully on the bench having won the ‘Zamora’ accolade, the homegrown goalkeeper showed his qualities in Almería. In the typical match where the keeper has little to do, but must comply with whatever may arise, he was solvent in every intervention, particularly in a one-on-one with Coric, to maintain a clean sheet.

Many rotations, same solidity

In regard to the last match against Alcorcón, Pellicer made seven changes to the starting-11. Only Lombán, Cifu, Adrián and Tete remained, but with great presence of less habitual players, the team stayed very compact in defence and created danger on numerous occasions with rapid transitions. A solid block.

19 matches with a clean sheet

Málaga again showed in Almería why they are the team to have conceded the fewest goals in the category, totalling 33 in 42 games. In 19 matches, they kept a clean sheet (seven under coach Víctor Sánchez del Amo and 12 with Sergio Pellicer). The stats in defence since the return of the competition have been extraordinary. In eight of the last 11 games, the team didn’t concede a goal. Outstanding.

14th place in the standings

For another season, LaLiga SmartBank has been characterised by how close the teams are in the top, middle and bottom parts of the table. In the case of Málaga CF, practically from the outset, the team has remained in intermediate positions or closer to the drop zone with a cushion from the bottom four teams. In terms of stats, the Blue and Whites scored 53 points (14th place) with the same number of victories and defeats (11) and 20 draws, to become the second team in the division after Rayo (21) to secure the most draws. With 35 goals scored and 33 conceded, the final figure is positive (+2).
