‘Zamora’ Munir

The prestigious trophy awarded every season by Marca to the goalkeeper to concede the fewest goals, in LaLiga SmartBank, has a winner this 19/20 campaign: Munir Mohand Mohamedi.

The Moroccan international goalkeeper has completed a superb season on a personal level. An undisputed part of the starting line-up, he has taken part in 38 league matches (all complete, 3,420 minutes) and conceded 29 goals. The coefficient of 0’76 goals conceded per game means he wins the Zamora Trophy with solvency.

One of the figures that stands out the most with the Melilla-born keeper this 19/20 season is the 18 matches with a clean sheet. That is almost 50% of the time he was in goal. Another interesting fact is the number of saves, some of which were worth points at decisive moments, totalling 83 (2’18 per match).

Last season, his first with the Blue and Whites, Munir was under the number of goals conceded per game. Coincidentally, he also defended the Malaguista goal 38 times with the same 3,420 minutes of play. He conceded 35 goals (0’92 average).

Munir inherits the crown from former Malaguista keeper Gallardo, who won the Zamora title posthumously in the Second Division in 86/87. In the First Division, there has only been one precedent, Deusto’s Zamora with CD Málaga in 71/72. Munir is the second Moroccan goalkeeper in history following the legendary Ezaki Badou (RCD Mallorca), to win the Marca award.

Málaga CF, the team to concede the fewest goals in LaLiga SmartBank

The team’s year in defence has been exceptional. As a result, the Blue and Whites conceded the least number of goals in the silver division. This is the first time the Club has achieved this feat in the Second Division. The team conceded 33 goals in 42 league games, with a magnificent average of 0’78 goals conceded per match.

Málaga CF didn’t concede a goal in 19 matches this season. In 21 games held at La Rosaleda, the lads conceded 18 goals; away from home the stats are even better – 15 goals in 21 matches, the best of the category in that regard.

Strength, solidarity, commitment…In terms of statistics, a historic milestone for MCF to end the season as the best defensive team in LaLiga SmartBank 19/20.
