Adriana Martín, striker and team captain of Málaga CF Femenino, made history last Sunday for scoring the fastest goal in the history of Spanish football. It took five seconds for the Malaguista to score the 0-1 in a match between the Blue and Whites and CP San Miguel, in Plasencia. Adriana spoke to MCFTV after breaking the record: “I still can’t believe what I’ve achieved, both myself and the team. I’m so pleased that people are talking about Málaga CF and women’s football because of my goal”.

“I still can’t believe what I’ve achieved, of what the team did yesterday. Although I’m the one who scored the goal, it was the work of the entire team, and is a great joy. How the play came about
“It wasn’t the main play. We were going to do another kick-off, which was what we’ve been working on all week. We’d seen it in the previous PowerPoint that Antonio always puts on for us for the matches. However, at that moment, Sheila – who is the other striker, and whom I’ve been playing with for years, just with a look we understand each other – she warned me that the keeper was forward, which I also saw, and told her not to touch the ball. She made a gesture of how to kick off, and I immediately launched, and well…I’m a player who trusts in the shot I have, and I only wanted it to be direct, as I knew if not I’d receive a comment from a teammate”.

“They are First Division players, to whom you’ve always looked up to, of a great level and quality, so you want to be like them. However, you never thought you’d surpass them or your name to be above theirs in a record like this. It’s a tremendous honour and I’m delighted, as the Málaga Femenino name is being heard everywhere, which makes me happy as all my teammates deserve it”.

“I’ve received so many messages, and I’m a player who always likes to answer everyone, because someone who spends a second writing to you deserves a reply. However, I’m having trouble answering them all! Particularly today as I’ve been up and down. I’m so happy we have this recognition, as we’ve been fighting for this sport for many years”.

“That same goalkeeper was in an advanced position in the first-round match, but when I got the ball she moved backwards. Would I try it again? Yes. I’m a player who trusts in her shot, and if I saw another keeper advanced, I’d be capable of doing it without thinking”.
