Málaga CFF defeated Real Betis Balompié in the quarter-finals of the Copa Andalucía Femenina de Fútbol. Arantxa and Marina were the Blue and Whites’ goalscorers.
The Copa Andalucía Femenina de Fútbol took the Blue and Whites to the Antonio Toledo Stadium on Sunday, where they faced Real Betis Balompié for a place in the semi-finals. The quarter-final tie kicked off at 21:00.
For #MálagaRealBetis, Héctor Díaz named M. Arrabal; C. Aguilar, Jeni L., Yoli Peche, M. Farfán (C); Yessenia, Andrea Ríos, Andrea Herrero, L. Ramos; Arantxa and Futu in his starting-11. Marina, Carmela, Correro, Alba Navarro and Belén also featured.
The Malaguistas produced a strong first half, looking solid defensively while also posing a threat in attack. The team had two chances to take the lead and remained competitive against the Green and Whites throughout the opening 45 minutes.
Straight after the restart, Arantxa capitalised on an error by the Betis defence and fired a powerful shot over the goalkeeper to open the scoring (46’, 0-1). In the 71st minute, Marina won possession inside the area following a mistake by the Betis goalkeeper and finished to extend Málaga’s lead (2-0).
The Malaguistas continued to push for more until the final whistle. Carmela came close to adding a third in a one-on-one situation in minute 89 and, in stoppage time, Andrea Herrero beat two opponents before attempting a lob that went just wide.
The victory sees the Blue and Whites through to the semi-finals of the Copa Andalucía. Their next match is against Sevilla FC on 12th August at 21:00.
