A magical weekend

The Málaga Phase of LaLiga Genuine Santander came to an end this Sunday morning at La Rosaleda, putting the finishing touch to three very intense days of values and football between the 18 exemplary participating teams.

Unforgettable, historical, and unique. These are just some of the adjectives that can describe the Málaga Phase of LaLiga Genuine. MCF Foundation was the perfect host and La Rosaleda experienced a spectacular atmosphere akin to the Fundación LaLiga tournament.

This second phase of the 2021/22 season, which has been underway since last Friday the 13th when the opening ceremony was held, until this Sunday, has brought together more than 400 players and coaching staff from the 18 participating teams to the Martiricos pitch, playing a total of 27 matches.

Málaga Genuine played Sevilla FC and Elche on Saturday, ending their participation in the Grupo Compañerismo against UD Las Palmas on Sunday morning.

When the last match came to an end, players and coaches received their medals for participation in the Málaga Phase from José María Muñoz, president of the MCF Foundation and Málaga CF’s judicial administrator, Mercedes García Paine, delegate for Education and Sports at the Junta de Andalucía, Lucas Rodríguez, MCF Foundation coordinator, and Basti from the Foundation’s Social Department.

With the multiple greetings and gestures of thanks to the families and other fans who were cheering on the teams throughout the weekend, and the official LaLiga Genuine Santander photo, the Málaga Phase of the competition came to an end.

Fernando Sanz, president of Fundación LaLiga, spoke to MCFTV after the medal presentation. Firstly, he explained that “LaLiga Genuine is the best league in the world, because the important thing is not to win but to take part and have fun. The players’ objective isn’t to be a champion, but to be a better teammate and athlete, which are the purest values of sport,” he said.

“It’s an honour and a great satisfaction for the city in such an important year, which brings back very good memories and where I had some of the best times of my life. It’s La Rosaleda’s 80th anniversary and it’s perfect that the best league in the world is being held here. It’s a perfect union of a wonderful and very important city, a huge and highly important club within LaLiga, and in a magical year with the 80th anniversary of La Rosaleda,” he added.

Fernando Sanz recognised the work of the MCF Foundation: “With Lucas at the helm and Basti, they’re doing a fantastic job, both with the Genuine team and the other projects. They are a model foundation and very important within LaLiga,” he said.

Finally, he praised the LaLiga Genuine fans, affirming that “they convey a very important value, which is respect. Many fans in Spain should learn from that respect and cordiality that they transmit,” he stated.
