A great point to kick off the year

Málaga CF Femenino obtained a draw against fifth-placed Betis in a match in which the Blue and Whites trailed on the scoreboard after minute 6.

Málaga CF Femenino secured a valuable point away to Real Betis Féminas. It wasn’t easy as the rival took the lead in the 6th minute. However, Antonio Contreras’ girls went from strength to strength and went level with a goal from Adriana. At the full-time whistle the points were shared between both sides.

The first half got underway with a local dominance. Betis wanted to assert their fifth position in the standings and stepped on to the pitch in search of possession with quick combinations and trying to impact the Blue and White defence. Betis soon rewarded their good start with a goal. In minute 6 of play, an impressive collective display was crowned with a magnificent personal action from Virgy in a one-on-one defined with perfection.

It took Málaga CF Femenino a while to react, but they did! The girls began to pile the pressure on upfront and showed increased strength, the fruit of which led Adriana Martín to steal the ball on a rival exit that culminated in an equaliser for the Blue and Whites (21’).

The goal spurred Málaga on on the field of play at the Ciudad Deportiva Luis del Sol. The Costa del Sol side not only played one-on-one with the rival in fifth place, nor just caused them trouble, they overcame them. Betis, with gameplay based on possession were unable to surpass the defensive lines set by Contreras and suffered a great deal when they didn’t have possession.

At half-time there was a feeling that Málaga CF Femenino could bring something positive back from Sevilla. In the second half the match was even. Both sides imposed their gameplay and tried to impede the rival from doing so. Whilst the locals tried to continue with their idea of quick, long circulation, the Blue and Whites were more electric based on pressure and vertical play; and in all this give and take, Málaga were better.

The most dangerous actions of the second half stemmed from set pieces. A long shot crashed into Chelsea’s post, in what was the best chance for Betis following their initial goal. In the same way the Blue and Whites kept insisting with various corners and free kicks, but without hitting the target.

The final minutes of play belonged to the Green and Whites. However, the fierce Malaguista defence prevented any sort of dangerous approach to the area and the match ended with a positive 1-1 draw for Antonio Contreras’ girls. This was Farfán’s First Division debut, as she came on in minute 90 in place of Adriana.
