Yeclano named as Malagueño’s promotion playoff rival

Atlético Malagueño will play Yeclano Deportivo in the first round of the #PromotionPlayoffs to Spanish football’s Segunda División B.

This afternoon, at the Luis Aragonés hall in the Ciudad del Fútbol de la RFEF (Las Rozas, Madrid), the draw took place for the second phase of the Third Division national league championship. As in previous years, the format pits the group champions against each other in a direct two-leg duel.

The Malaguista reserve team, Group IX champions for the second consecutive year, has been paired with Yeclano Deportivo. The team from Murcia, winners of Third Division Group XIII, claimed the title with 75 points (+7 over the team in second place, Mar Menor) in 38 matches. Yecla accumulated 22 victories, 9 draws and 7 defeats, with 81 goals scored and 37 conceded in the regular league competition.

The final part of the draw was undertaken by ex-Málaga CF player, Santi Carpintero, who was the innocent hand in the ninth and last choice of pairings, which determined that the first leg will take place in Málaga this coming weekend. The return leg will be on the following weekend (26-27 May) at Yeclano’s ground. The winner of the tie will ascend directly to Second B.
