Women’s team lose to Betis in a hard-fought match (0-3)

Málaga CF Femenino suffered a 0-3 defeat against Real Betis Féminas in the third Liga Iberdrola match of the season held at La Federación in front of 600 fans.

The match kicked off with both teams contesting possession of the ball in midfield, with no clear options to open the scoring. Betis approached the Malaguista goal but came up against Chelsea who prevented a rival goal with a solid save. Leti Méndez generated the clearest opportunity for Antonio Contreras’ girls, who attempted to surprise the Betis keeper without success. In minute 36 Patricia Mascaró had the chance of going 1-0 up with a promising cross shot missing out on the goal by mere centimetres, then in 40’ she had another opportunity that didn’t materialise. Luck wasn’t on the side of the home team and in 43’ Real Betis took the lead thanks to a goal from Bea Parra, and two minutes later Van Dongen made it 0-2 just before half-time.

Málaga came out with a stronger attack in the second half but didn’t manage to convert. In the 62^nd minute, Priscila scored the 0-3 with an impossible save for Chelsea. Contreras made some changes and in 73’ Celia Ruano stepped on to the pitch, making her debut wearing the Blue and White shirt. With four minutes remaining, a perfect shot from Adriana could have made it 1-3 but the ball crashed into the post. There was no time for more and the match ended in a 0-3 win for Betis.
