Narrow defeat in a very close match (1-0)

The Malaguistas lost their first LaLiga 1|2|3 match of the season, following five consecutive victories, although they remain at the top of the standings.

A duel between the top table teams, Málaga CF and UD Las Palmas, at Estadio de Gran Canaria. The local coach had to make a substitution before kick-off. Rivera sustained injury during the warm-up and was replaced by Javi Castellano in the starting-11, bringing Momo into the line-up. Muñiz’s men kicked-off with more presence in the rival half than the opponent. Ontiveros enjoyed the first opportunity of the match after just two minutes. Málaga maintained the attack on the left wing, with Las Palmas attempting to shake off the pressure searching for Rubén Castro with long balls. Maikel Mesa created the best chance of the game in minute 18, but his shot was deflected by Munir. The locals began to benefit from more possession and dangerous approaches to the Malaguista goal midway through the first half. Ricca was shown the first yellow card of the game after cutting off a rival attack on the right wing. Ontiveros again tried his luck with a spectacular personal display. He dribbled past three rival players but skied his shot from in front of the target. The first half came to an end with a 0-0 draw.

The second half got underway with no changes for either team. Both sides came out more contemplative after the break. Rubén Castro created the clearest occasion in the second half. His shot grazed the crossbar of Munir’s goal. Las Palmas coach, Manolo Jiménez made a substitution in 63’, bringing on Rafa Mir in place of Tana. Muñiz did the same with Hicham coming on in place of Pacheco (67’). In the 69th minute, the referee showed the yellow card to Cala for a foul on Harper on the edge of the area. Five minutes later the locals netted a goal, the work of Rafa Mir. Javi Castellano left the field of play, leaving his place to Pekhart (77’). A minute later Koné substituted Harper. Málaga continued their quest for an equaliser, but without success in front of Raúl Lizoaín’s goal. The visitors pushed until the end but didn’t manage to go level (1-0).
