Under the slogan, ‘Women and sport: the road to equality’, the Málaga Club de Fútbol Foundation organised an informal talk today at Portada Alta secondary school, with the aim of raising awareness to those present of the importance of the role of women in today’s society and highlight their sporting achievements in recent years.

Two Málaga CF Femenino players attended the event, María Martí and Karina Socarrás; as well as Málaga-born referee, Eva Alcaide; Onda Cero Málaga journalist, Isabel Sánchez; president of the Asociación Nena Paine, Mercedes García Paine; and representative from the MCF Foundation’s Social Department, Sebastián Fernández Reyes ‘Basti’.

The two Blue and Whites’ players told those present at the school about their struggles to become elite athletes, and the great progress made in terms of equality in sport in recent years.

Statements to MCFTV

Málaga CF Femenino player, María Martí highlights the importance of these events to raise awareness in society about equality: “It’s good that they know what we do on a daily basis as players, how we live, and the sacrifice and effort women have to make to fulfil their objectives”.

Karina Socarrás, her teammate on the women’s squad affirms that “we’re very close to achieving equality throughout the world. Everything takes time, but you can appreciate it”.

With Málaga CF, equality goes by the flag. Almost half of the Club’s employees are women. Within our youth ranks and school we have 150 female players, including the women’s first team”, says Basti.
