Miquel: “Eleven is not the same as thirty thousand united fans”

Today was the turn of Blue and Whites’ player, Ignasi Miquel to hold a press conference. “A good result could reverse the way of seeing things”, he says in the press room at the Ciudad de Málaga.

Last match

“I think we all know how important that match was. The only thing is that sometimes, things don’t go the way you want them to. We are the first ones on the pitch to realise when we’re not doing things right, as hard as we try. In the end, it’s good for us to know what image we cannot show on the field of play, particularly in a match like last Saturday, which is what we did. We’re aware of it and accept the criticism from this game, as it was poor, but now we’re focused on Saturday, a big match ahead of us”.

Spirits intact

“I see the team in high spirits, determined. These matches can revive and enhance the team and help us to see that we still have options. It’s tough, but still mathematically possible, so we have to carry on and focus on the job in hand”.

Competing with Barça

“Overcoming them, above all with intensity, that’s the most important thing. If you try and be a little more active than them, stronger, braver, you could have some options. However, if you relax, retreat back, see that they play very well yet you don’t wake up, it will be practically impossible as we know how capable they are with the ball. It’s about competing, being more competitive than them, and showing that we are the ones who truly need the three points”.

United group

“I always try to give everything I can on the pitch, I never give up, but I’m not alone. We all win and we all lose, as a group we are one. We know and understand that people aren’t happy, but the team is still very much united, although it’s very difficult. A good result, with a bit of luck, could reverse the way of thinking and seeing things”.

Fans

“I would ask, though I know it’s extremely tough, that the fans stay with us through the entire game, no matter what. Then when the match is over, everyone can express their feelings. But for those 90 to 95 minutes we must be a united group, as eleven is not the same as thirty thousand united fans”.
