The Málaga CF Femenino midfielder will wear her country’s jersey during the celebration of the tournament, taking place between 4th and 22nd April.

Pamela González, Málaga CF Femenino midfielder, has been called-up by the Uruguay women’s national football team to participate in the Copa América Femenina 2018, held between 4th and 22nd April in Chile.

The Blue and Whites’ player spoke to the Málaga CF media after hearing the news and is delighted with the call-up.

Proud and happy

“For any player to enter into their country’s line-up is an honour. Right now, I feel absolutely thrilled to have the chance to again defend my country. This highlights the work that’s being done here in Málaga, we’re having a superb season, which I’m also very pleased about”.

Copa América

“It’s a difficult competition, but we’re going to trust in the work we’re doing and try to perform the best we can”.

 Unexpected news

“Being so far away from the Uruguayan league, you don’t know if they’re aware of what’s happening here or not. I didn’t expect it. I know we’ve been working very well, but I never anticipated this news at all”.

Re-encounter with family

“In August it’ll be two years since I’ve seen my family. When I heard the news the first thing I did was call may parents, and my mum was so excited. We’re delighted with this opportunity, and if everything goes well, they’ll be able to see me again”.

International career

This isn’t the first time the Blue and Whites’ player has worn her country’s shield. Pamela was called-up by Uruguay’s first team in 2014 when she was 18 years old.

In addition, the midfielder has played within Uruguay’s youth ranks. She started with the U-17s, taking part in the Women’s World Cup in Azerbaijan, the first World Cup Uruguay qualified for. She was also captain of Uruguay’s U-20s, and the best player in the Uruguayan league in 2014.
