Following his recovery from injury, Málaga Club de Fúbol’s Brazilian-born centre-forward, Weligton Robson Pena de Oliveira, held a press conference after this morning’s training session.
Weligton, who this week re-joined group training, is feeling physically fitter every day: “I’ve still got a few problems, but I hope I’m able to play on Monday. I can work alongside Flávio, which I’m sure will turn out well. Our defensive strategy has had to change somewhat due to a number of players being out through injury. We always try and do our best, but the important thing is earning the three points.”
The ‘Malaguista’ defender and team captain has faith that the Blue and Whites can overcome Monday’s tough rival, Real: “The entire team feels confident. Following the ‘disaster’ against Rayo, we know we’re going to have to fight until the very end. Real have some powerful players, but we need to focus on our own abilities. If we perform well, then I believe we can win, but we need to show what we’re capable of on the pitch. Monday’s game will be like a final to us. It’s always such a big motivation for us coming up against big teams. We’ve learnt the hard way that a silly mistake can cost a match, so we need to remain focused for the 90 minutes.”
On a very special day, St Valentine’s Day, Weligton comments that the fans are a fundamental part of the team’s success: “Our supporters have always been behind us, through the good times and the bad, and they’ll be with us again on Monday.”
