Schuster: “The team is full of morale ahead of the match against Real”
Málaga Club de Fútbol coach, Bernd Schuster, held a press conference following this morning’s training session, to analyse Monday’s match at La Rosaleda against Real Sociedad, kicking off at 10 p.m.
Schuster is confident the team has moved on from the defeat at Vallecas: “The match against Rayo was a big disappointment for us, following an important win over Sevilla. The worst part about it was not continuing the winning streak, so tomorrow we really need to up our game against a difficult, dangerous rival. We’ve performed well in a lot of matches this season, and as more of our players have now recovered from injury, the team is full of morale. It’ll be tough, but we are capable of winning. It’s vital we secure a home win tomorrow.”
As Roque returns to the line-up, the ‘Malaguista’ coach has more options available upfront: “We’ve got Roque back in the line-up for tomorrow, but not part of the starting-11. There won’t be a lot of change to the line-up, and although we’re missing some defenders, we’ll continue along the same lines. The injured players are gradually returning to full fitness, which will be very important in upcoming matches. We need players out there, such as Weligton, Roque, Duda...”.
The German-born coach views the midweek friendly against Dynamo Kiev as positive for the players who don’t get the chance to play as much. Schuster is aware of Real’s strong points, and the key to winning tomorrow’s game: “Real are a very fast team, which is an important part of their strategy. We’ve now got two speedy players on the wing, which could turn out to be crucial tomorrow. I hope we can make the rival work hard in defence, and put on a good show for the crowd. We need to be on top of Griezmann and Vela throughout the match, as they’re fast and good at gaining possession. Real are always on the lookout for open space on the wings. They’re a difficult side, but when a team plays one-on-one, it’s always good for us.”
Schuster has Tissone back in the line-up, following his absence at Vallecas: “You can certainly notice his absence when he’s not on the pitch. He’s an important member of the team due to his speed, endurance and the level of support he gives to the squad. It’s always a good thing when Tissone is available to play. I’ve always viewed him as an important member of the team.”
The Blue and Whites’ coach will fulfil his second and final match ban tomorrow night: “I think it’s crucial to be in the dugout. We still haven’t got the formation of the team exactly right. It’s a very powerless feeling not being allowed on to the side lines, but we’ll do our absolute best tomorrow and get back to normal as soon as possible. It’s important for the players too.”
