Víctor Gómez: “Intensity is an identity of the team”

The Malaguista headed to the press room after #MálagaEibar. “It’s a negative result, but we have to focus on the positives. We competed against the leader for so long with a man down,” he explained.

Málaga CF right-back, Víctor Gómez appeared in the ‘Juan Cortés’ press room at La Rosaleda Stadium following #MálagaEibar.

He was initially asked about Llorente’s disallowed goal due to the prior foul. “It was an action that the linesman would have seen first. When I covered the ball, he stepped on my foot. The VAR went in our favour,” he said.

He went on to analyse the match: “The team got off to an incredible start, with a stunning goal by Brandon. We had chances, that expulsion was a killer, but what killed us the most was the penalty. If that hadn’t happened, the match would have been different.”

In regard to the intensity shown by the team, he said “it’s an identity the team has had since Pablo Guede arrived. Piling the pressure on and trying to find Joza and Febas. The team is on a positive trajectory. It’s a negative result, but we have to focus on the positives. We competed against the leader for so long with a man down,” he continued.

When questioned about the standings he said: “I don’t want to talk about permanence or relegation. We need to focus on ourselves, go to Las Palmas to win and then we’ll see where we are.”

Finally, he spoke about the current level of the team, recognising “the dynamics. The entire team is performing well. I want to return to the level from the start of the season, and we’re trying our best to move this forward,” he said.
