Tribute to Ismael Díaz in Gijón

The former Malaguista coach greeted the Blue and Whites at NH Gijón hotel, the night before #SportingMálaga, where he was presented with a commemorative shirt celebrating the promotion to Second Division.

Ismael Díaz Galán (Aviles, Asturias, 2nd October, 1967) was Málaga CF coach in the 1997/98 season when the team was promoted from Second B to Second Division.

The Malaguista squad face Real Sporting de Gijón today, Wednesday, and Ismael Díaz didn’t want to miss the opportunity to see his many friends from the Blue and Whites’ Club.

Club advisers; Abdullah Ben Barek and Francisco Martín Aguilar welcomed the former coach with great affection, and presented him with a shirt to commemorate the year of promotion. In addition, he was reunited with equipment managers, Miguel Zambrana and Juan Carlos Salcedo, and head of medical services, Juan Carlos Pérez Frías.

“We are all part of the family that made that miracle happen that we remember today, and these honours are collected in representation of them”, comments Ismael Díaz before saying goodbye to his former colleagues.
