Today marks 45 years since Spain’s debut at La Rosaleda

On 21st February 1973, this day 45 years ago, the Spanish national team played its first official match at La Rosaleda stadium.

The match, corresponding to a qualifier for the World Cup held in Germany in 1974, was between Spain and Greece.

The national squad, with Ladislao Kubala – future CD Málaga coach – at the helm, had the following starting line-up: Reina, Sol, Violeta, Gallego, Benito, Asensi, Claramunt, Valdez, Txetxu Rojo (Migueli 78’), Gárate and Amancio (Roberto Martínez 65’).

The Spanish goal-scorers were Claramunt (29’), Sol (38’) and Roberto Martínez (77’). Andoniadis scored for Greece (36’).

Curiously, three CD Málaga players were called up to the national team for the first time (Migueli, Macías and Deusto). Migueli played a few minutes in the closing stages of play, of which was his second international match.
