On this day, 28th December 1946, the signing of who would become CD Málaga’s top goal-scorer in history took place, Pedro Bazán.
Some 72 years ago, the first team of the city at that time, the iconic Club Deportivo Málaga, incorporated no less than five players on the eve of a match at La Rosaleda against Real Zaragoza.
Under the presidency of Manuel Navarro Nogueroles, Málaga reinforced their attack and four of the new signings – all except Pedrín – debuted in the starting-11 against the ‘Maño’ rival, making up the classic five player formation upfront.
The reinforcements who were part of the match, accompanying the undisputed captain Emilio were Clemente, Roldán, Ubis and one Bazán. Thus, the ‘Cañonero de La Algaba’ started a spectacular career over eight seasons at Martiricos, during which he scored 146 goals in official games.
Pedro Bazán is the Club’s highest scorer under all denominations, achieving three First Division promotions with the Club, two ‘pichichis’ in the silver division and was the first Spanish Malaguista international (With Spain ‘B’). Amongst his many achievements was the incredible record of goals in a Second Division match in the epic 9-2 win against Hércules, in which he scored the 9 Blue and White goals.
