The Joaquín Peiró bench is now a reality

Peiró’s son Quini yesterday saw the sign featuring the name of the charismatic coach for the first time. The renamed dugout will be debuted today in the match against CD Tenerife.

The name of Joaquín Peiró is eternal at La Rosaleda. This Saturday his son Quini, accompanied by Malaguista judicial administrator, José María Muñoz; Protocol and Institutional Relations Adviser, Francisco Martín Aguilar; and Sebastián Fernández Reyes, ‘Basti’ from the Foundation’s Social Department, unveiled the sign where the charismatic coach will always be remembered.

During this intimate act organised by the MCF Foundation, headed up by coordinator Lucas Rodríguez, Quini recalled the idyll of Don Joaquín and Malaguismo: “There was something special here, a great affection, a unity between the Club, media and fans which is difficult to achieve, and an environment to lift the city back into the world of football. Málaga is a huge point of reference for our family, and that’s how we’ll remember it thanks to this tribute”.

Basti was one of his players and he affectionately recalls Peiro's influence in the dressing room: “He was like a lynx, he watched the games so well. At group level he knew how to manage the dressing room and there was a great deal of respect for him. He conveyed to us the values of hard work, perseverance and humility. All MCF’s successes came about when he was here. When he arrived, it was something very special. He took us up to the elite, we won the Intertoto, and he took the team to Europe”.

Francisco Martín Aguilar shared many personal moments with Don Joaquín: “I had the opportunity to get to know him and learnt a lot from him. He should be remembered here forever on this bench, a place where he showed such mastery and knowledge and transmitted so many values. All Malaguistas will be very proud”.
