During the upcoming 22/23 season, Málaga CF will face seven new opponents. Three relegated from LaLiga Santander and four moving up from Primera RFEF.
In the absence of deciding whether Girona FC or CD Tenerife will move up to the First Division, the rest of Málaga Club de Fútbol's opponents in the silver division of Spanish football are now known.
Granada CF, Levante UD and Deportivo Alavés have been relegated from the First Division, whilst Real Racing Club de Santander and FC Andorra were promoted to the Second Division as Primera RFEF Group 1 and Group 2 champions respectively. Last weekend, two other teams from Group 2 of the bronze division also moved up, Villarreal CF ‘B’ and Albacete Balompié.
A third of the Blue and Whites' rivals are new for the 22/23 campaign. In the case of FC Andorra and the Villarreal CF reserve team, they have never played MCF in an official match. The Yellows competed in the Second Division for three seasons between 2009 and 2012, whilst Andorra will make their debut next season in LaLiga SmartBank.
SD Eibar, UD Las Palmas, Real Oviedo, SD Ponferradina, FC Cartagena, Real Zaragoza, Burgos CF, CD Leganés, SD Huesca, CD Mirandés, UD Ibiza, CD Lugo and Real Sporting de Gijón complete the teams in the division alongside Málaga CF. We’re playing our fifth consecutive season in the silver division and eighth in total under the Club’s current name.
Out of the 'new' teams, the most experienced is Levante UD with 40 seasons in the silver division, compared to Alavés with 37, Racing with 35 and Granada with 33, the only Andalusian team that will compete alongside Málaga after UD Almería’s promotion LaLiga Santander, and Albacete with 24.
