La Rosaleda gets ready for the new season

Work on the pitch at La Rosaleda Stadium is progressing well, at a good pace, to be in an optimal condition for the upcoming 22/23 season.

Once again, the Annexe ground and the main Martiricos pitch have presented an excellent aspect through the months of competition, featuring daily training sessions for the first team and 21 LaLiga SmartBank games. The icing on the cake of the 21/22 campaign was the 10th time the Spanish national team visited La Rosaleda, training on the 10th and 11th and winning on the 12th June against the Czech Republic (2-0) in front of 30,000 fans.

On Monday 13th, the Blue and White ground’s ‘facelift’ got underway. The Annexe and main pitch at La Rosaleda will undergo the classic change of turf during the summer season, fundamentally based on the transition from Lolium perenne (C3) to bermudagrass (C4). This includes:

  • Removal of Lolium perenne.
  • Scarification process.
  • Solid-Tine Aeration.
  • Re-planting.
  • Appliation of soil mendments.
  • Topdressing with sand.

The estimated time for the playing fields to be fit for training and playing, both biomechanically and visually, is around eight weeks once the aforementioned work has been completed.

A 'change of skin' which, in the words of Javier Pérez, head of Málaga CF’s Infrastructure and Maintenance Department, “aims to have the pitch in the best possible condition for when the League starts.”
