Sergi Darder: “We want to end the first round with 23 points”
Málaga Club de Fútbol’s Sergi Darder held a press conference following this morning’s training session at the Ciudad de Málaga athletics stadium, to analyse the team.
Sergi Darder begins by talking about the possibility of new players joining the squad during the January transfer window: “We haven’t heard anything at all. If new players join us then that’d be great, and we’d obviously respect the decision of any current player who leaves us. Additional players create a good degree of competition within the team, which is always a good thing.”
Darder talks about the intensity of the team’s training sessions, and hopes the Blue and Whites can end the first round of the League season on a positive note, following the defeat by Atlético de Madrid: “We want to end the first round with 23 points, it’s so important. We’re pleased with our performance against Atlético de Madrid, and although it was a tough game, we played one-on-one which is what we prefer to do. We stood our ground on Saturday, and although it wasn’t a strong defence formation, we definitely had the match under control.”
The Blue and Whites’ midfielder warns of the difficulties surrounding the next League match: “Caparrós has got a very intense, tight team. It’ll be a hard-fought match at their ground this weekend, so it’s crucial that we maintain a good level of intensity on the pitch and go all out to win. Will we play the same way we did against Atlético? Many people think that playing with five defenders equals a stronger defence, but it’s a system that worked well for us. I don’t know yet how we’ll play against Levante, but that wouldn’t be a bad option. However the coaching team knows how the rivals play, and the coach will select the best formation for us to tackle Levante.”
