Sekou: “I always want to score a goal, it’s my job”

The Malaguista striker spoke to the Club media following the match against Las Palmas. “I feel good physically and hope to help the team a lot,” he affirmed.

One of the stars of tonight’s game was Sekou, the Malaguista number ‘22’ who scored the winning Malaguista goal in the closing stages. “We rehearsed that play this morning, I shot at goal, but it didn’t go in. The cross was perfect and the shot was good. The play was focused on scoring a goal. I was able to gain possession and the ball went in. I’m super happy,” he said.

This wasn’t just any goal for Sekou, “it was very important. Due to injuries, I’ve not had the continuity needed to get on form. I sustained injury on 15th November last year, so scoring today is a weight off my shoulders. It’s important for a striker to score, especially with the fans. I need to continue improving my form and help the team, ideally with more goals,” he stated.

This was his first goal wearing the Blue and White jersey. “I always want to score a goal, it’s my job and what I’ll be judged on. With fewer minutes than other matches I was able to score. I’m delighted on a personal and collective level. I hope to keep improving and scoring goals,” he affirmed.

Regarding the fans’ support, the Malaguista forward said: “I’m so grateful over 22,000 people came out to support us in the rain. It’s a real motivation. I thank them all on behalf of the team.”

UD Las Palmas were a very difficult rival, and Sekou said “they demanded the most from us and played the best here at La Rosaleda.”

To end, Sekou commented on the dressing room: “We’re all very happy. The Second Division is so tough, this is the first time we’ve won two games on the bounce. The team is enthusiastic and keen to win away from home,” he said.
