Schuster: “We should be pleased with our performance”

Málaga CF coach, Bernd Schuster, held a press conference at La Rosaleda following tonight’s match against Valencia CF.

Schuster is pleased with his team’s performance against a rival like Valencia CF: “I think we really stayed on top of Valencia tonight.  They’re a tough team to beat, with a quality attacking display and good movement around the pitch.  We really worked hard tonight and put our heart and soul into this game.  We played one-on-one with the rival, which is what we were determined to do, but thanks to an excellent performance by both goalkeepers, here we are with a 0-0 draw.”

With regards to the changes in game play and scoring opportunities for his team, the German-born coach comments: “Both teams performed well upfront, which is why it’s always difficult to maintain a strong defence against Valencia, but we did have a few near misses.  As I said, both Alves and Caballero were strong tonight, and the main reason why the match ended in a goalless draw.  However we’ve improved somewhat since the first round, and at least gained a point.  We should be pleased with our performance, as we worked hard in what was a very tough game.”

Referring to Pablo Pérez making his debut with the Blue and Whites, Bernd Schuster explains: “It hasn’t been an easy day for Pablo today.  At the last minute we received his international transfer, but the important thing is he really got into the dynamic of play.  He’s only been with us for a short time, so when he gets to know his teammates a bit more, and knows how they move around the pitch, he’ll improve.  There’s a lot more to see from Pablo.”
